Think of just the cold – for people who lack warm clothing and safe heating. Then add the rain that pours through the flimsy structures that are ‘home’, wetting and damaging any meager furniture and possessions. In most of the settlements where we work, the land is low-lying without proper roads and storm water drainage, resulting in flooding and thick mud.
Is it any wonder that winter = pure misery and hardship? Even greater, when the winter is a severe one!
The Tani children live with their unemployed mother and exist on a grant. They have to travel a long way to school in the cold and rain without jerseys or raincoats, and usually no breakfast. When they bath, it’s in cold water, and they are often sick.
The winter needs experienced by poor families have a common thread running through them. And they could be met by something as simple as a ‘Rescue Pack’, if you will open your heart with your donation made online here to help us to provide this helping hand to people in the very worst winter situations...
The package contains items like clothing, toiletries, towels, tea, coffee, sugar, tinned food items, rice, mielie meal, lentils, flour, a mattress, blanket and sheets.
